Many people think that as long as a nursing home resident applies for Medicaid within three months of going into a nursing home, Medicaid coverage will be retroactive to the date of admission.
However, Medicaid will only be approved starting the first day that the person was deemed eligible.
If the resident was not eligible when she entered the nursing home, even if the application is made within three months, Medicaid coverage will not be effective as of the date of admission.
