4 Ways to Beat Boredom This Winter

January 12, 2015 · Leave a Comment

Winter is a great time for organizing, such as sorting through old photographs.

When we’re closeted indoors during a winter deep freeze, cabin fever can set in. Try some of these creative ideas for indoor activities to beat the boredom – and maybe warm your heart. Read more ideas in our feature in the winter issue.

  • Visit JCPS Lifelong Learning to find online classes on a subject that interests you, such as learning a new language or writing mystery stories. There are many classes you can take from your own home.
  • Go through your closet and donate any clothes that don’t fit or aren’t comfortable to wear.
  • Sort through old photographs. Throw out blurry shots. Write names and dates on the backs. Mail extra photos of loved ones to them to minimize your stash and let them know you are thinking about them.
  • Contact a reading specialist at a local elementary school and ask about typing or hand-printing letters to novice readers, such as first and second graders. Students would love to get special mail and could practice reading the letter and writing back to you.
