Learning About Alzheimer’s, part 4: Your overall health

April 24, 2014 · Leave a Comment

This post is the last of a five-part series by Linda Hitt Kempf, RN, LNHA about the latest research and help for patients and family members dealing with Alzheimer’s disease. Read part 1, part 2, and part 3 of this series.

Your overall health is important in the mission to prevent Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Boz Tabler, local geriatric psychiatrist, shares four recommendations to enjoy good mental and physical health:

  1. Exercise your mind and body.
  2. Eat right. Cut red meat way back or eliminate it altogether. Eat lean poultry, or better yet, eat fish. Eat your veggies and fruits, just like your mom told you.
  3. Socialize more. Develop a large circle of friends with varying interests. Laugh, cry, and learn with them.
  4. Take care of your body. Quit smoking, reduce your alcohol intake, and reduce stress in your life.
  5. Love more.
